Criollo Horse
Criollo Horse
The Criollo Horse has a rich traditional reputation of endurance and hardiness in a setting where graceful skills of survival were needed. This South American breed was adjusted to rugged terrains and germane climatic conditions, presenting ideal traits for long cattle drives and hard ranch work.
These horses are compact and well muscled, ranging from 14 to 15 hands in height. The coat colors range from bay to chestnut and gray to dun. With calm temperaments and high intelligence, they train easily and are good to work with all types of riders and livestock.
The breed probably doesn’t have greater stamina; they can easily cover enormous distances before ever tiring, and as such became respected by the cowboys. Such untiring workability and speed on rocky trails and open plains have made these horses the "choice" for all.
For ranch work or trail-riding, a very strong and trustworthy horse is desirable, and here lies the full promise of the Criollo.
