Maine Coon Cat

The Majestic and Sturdy Maine Coon Cat, one of the best natural survivors, and the all-time favorite amongst those doing frontier penance. Big, huge, large even, with tufted ears and the richest long fur, these cats often earned their keep by hunting vermin, protecting the settlers’ barns and homes.

Honed in the freezing climate of the northeast, the Maine Coons ventured westward with the pioneers, adjusting perfectly to the harsh terrain and capricious weather. Their water-repellent fur coats and bushy tails were excellent attributes while coping with fierce winters and dusty plains.

If something does not seem very cuddly, it is the Maine Coon: the large fur ball with a very playful, sociable character. Usually loyal, these cats follow one like faithful deputies, preferring to communicate through a catalogue of chirps and trills instead of conventional meows.

A much-needed Maine Coon on the frontier meant at least one reliable mouser was out on patrol, defending the pantry from stealthy intruders. Their intelligence and ability to remain calm made great cat companions those long hard-working days.

If spotted sunbathing on the porch or creeping through tall grasses, you have just glimpsed at one of the most dignified and reliable feline friends of the Wild West.
