During the American Wild West era, a lot of people had to move because of insecurity. Life was dangerous there because of robberies, conflicts, and the lack of law enforcement in some towns. Firearms became an important tool for protection and survival. Moreover, it had a really important part in Wild West life. Cowboys carried it in leather holsters attached to belts. Rangers used it to protect livestock from thieves or wild animals. Sheriffs and marshals used it to enforce law in towns. Finally, outlaws used it during robberies, duels, and gunfights. Production of the Colt Revolver was cancelled twice but renewed due to popular demand, and its popularity could be found among ranchers, lawmen, and outlaws alike. Indeed, production stopped in 1941. However, it returned in the 1950s because western movies became popular again. Today, the value of Colt Revolvers is high, and some of them cost a lot of money.
The Colt Revolver was also known for its strong design and practical features, which made it one of the most used weapons of the American Wild West. The original model, called the Colt Single Action Army, had a good size to be practical. Furthermore, the functioning of the Colt Revolver was really inventive and new at that time. It was a single-action revolver, which means that the hammer had to be manually pulled back before every shot. The rotating cylinder with six chambers meant that one bullet was aligned with the barrel. It was faster than older one-shot pistols because users could fire multiple bullets before reloading. Reloading was still relatively slow because bullets had to be inserted one by one. It was also nicknamed the “six-shooter” because it carried six rounds.
