Hello Cowboys, Pioneers, Outlaws and, Totem Bearers and welcome to the 1st edition of Wild West Characters. In every edition, I will briefly go over a bit of who the character is, one of their adventures(or doings) and a small reveiw on them as well. These characters are a wide range from the history of the Wild West and I can't wait for y'all to learn just as much as I did about these rootin' tootin' characters.
Today's review is on Davy Crockey so sit back, get comfy, and ready to read a bit about him! Enjoy!
The king of the wild west... You may have heard him in a song with a tune that goes a little like 'Now, Injun fightin' is somethin' he knows so he shoulders his rifle an' off he goes Davy, Davy Crockett, the man who don't know fear'. Know that one? Yep, David Crockett, or welly known to be Davy Crockett was born in 1786 and died in 1863. Throughout his life, he served as a congressman and then went to fight and die in the Alamo. He was known to be a frontiersman. There were quite a bunch of these frontier folk! He fought in the war of 1812 and even fought against the Creek Indians in Alabama, and participated in the Indian massacre at Tallushatchee which had been for an Indian attack on Fort Mims in Alabama. .
He was born in Tennessee and had eight other siblings. Sheesh! What a family am I right? Growing up, Davy did not have education potentially because he and his family moved around so much, plus he had to help pay off his families debt. instead he was educated on the outdoors! He was a scout and a woodsman. He married a woman named Mary Finley, or more known as Polly, with her, he had three of five children. When Mary passed on, Davy married another woman later on, Elizabeth Patton, who had 2 children, and together they had three children! Seems like Davy sure had a bundle! I don't know how he survived with that many children and siblings!! Honestly must have been chaos, but i'm sure his children were all joys!
Davy had a seat in the House of Representatives after trying to get into congress 2 times and he actually disliked Andrew Jackson at first! During this time on the chair, he wrote three books of his own. Before getting a seat in the HOR, he was a public commissioner of Lawrence County and soon became a lieutenant colonel in the Tennessee militia, which he eventually stepped down from and moved to the Tennessee General Assembly! During his time there he helped fight for tax and landrights for those who were settlers and poor.
In the final years of Davy's life, he fought at the Alamo over in Texas. It isn't 100% known how he passed away, however, he's believed to have died fighting along the 200+ Texas volunteer soilders and thousands of other troops fighting at the Alamo. Some believe he didn't die there and he was taken hostage with a bunch of other men and executed. What do you all think?
Davy Crockett has always been someone who I've loved hearing about. He sure was interesting. I'd say hes a 7.5/10 character that we know of, it'd be nice to hear about more detail about some of his adventures and doings for sure since we don't see too much 'bout those! Maybe even some of his movement with family will He became such a well known person by the end of the 19th century for all his doings.
That concludes todays interesting learning about the fronterisman himself, Davy Crockett. Stay tuned for the next volume where another wild west character will be talked about! :)
