Lehigh Valley
The Lehigh Valley is not only geographic but also a metropolitan region that is formed by the Lehigh River in Lehigh and Northampton counties that’s in Pennsylvania. Specifically the Allentown-Bethleham-Easton metropolitan area which does include Lehigh is Pennsylvania’s third most populous metropolitan area.

Delaware tribes that were known as Lenni Lenape hunted, fished and even quarried jasper in the area that we know as Lehigh Valley. It is known that Europeans first arrived in the early 1700’s to trade with indians and by 1730 William Penn promoted descriptions of the land via advertisements that drew German settlers to settle within Lehigh Valley. Not only did the German settlers want to settle but the German immigrants as well to flee war as well as religious persecution.

One of the oldest continuously occupied building structures in the state is better known as the Shelter House in Emmaus of Lehigh Valley which was constructed by Pennsylvania German settlers in 1734.

William Penn who was known better as provincial Pennsylvania founder had sons and in 1737 they acquired much of Lehigh Valley during the colonial period within the Walking Purchase that involved Lenape Native Americans. Thereafter, The Lenape Indians retaliated with raids against the European settlers in the region during the 1750s to early 1760’s but eventually by mid 1760’s were moved out of the region. During 1752 the region became part of Northampton County and Lehigh county was separated later from Northampton County and in 1812 it was formally established. All these happenings were better known as the Colonial Era.

Allentown and its surrounding areas played not just a historic role but an important one as well during the American Revolution where in June 21, 1774 Patriot forces began a meeting to form resistance plans to British colonial governance. Allentown area patriot militias formally established a Committee of Observation on December 21, 1774 as well.

Allentown and Lehigh Valley also played a huge role in the American Civil war and the Industrial Revolution. As you can tell Lehigh Valley played in huge rolls during the 1600 til the 20th century as it even had a company for steel which was the second largest manufacturer of steel to also be better known as Bethlehem steel and it was used to develop many early as well as largest infrastructure and building projects that even includes The Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, and Rockefeller center which is in New York City. However ceased steel manufacturing entirely as Bethlehem at its primary based manufacturing plant in 1995 and in 2001 unfortunately the company filed for bankruptcy protection.
