Wild West Outlaws
Outlaws of the Wild West
The Wild West was home to some of the most daring criminals in American history. These outlaws robbed banks, held up trains, and lived outside the law in an era when the frontier was vast and justice was hard to enforce. Their exploits became legends that endure to this day.
The Most Wanted
Jesse James and his brother Frank led one of the most notorious gangs in the West, robbing banks, stagecoaches, and trains for over fifteen years. Billy the Kid, born Henry McCarty, became a symbol of youthful rebellion and frontier violence. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid pulled off some of the most audacious heists of the era before fleeing to South America.
Women Outlaws
The frontier also produced fearless women who defied convention. Belle Starr, the "Bandit Queen," was known for horse theft and harboring fugitives. Pearl Hart was one of the last known stagecoach robbers. These women proved that the outlaw life knew no gender. Discover more frontier characters in our lexicon.
